Breastfeeding and weight gain for mama?

Has anyone stopped breastfeeding because of personal (not baby) weight gain? I nursed my first for 8 months and gained loads of weight postpartum- I was incredibly bloated and puffy, despite regular exercise and healthy diet. I exclusively breastfed/pumped for 6 months, then combo breastmilk/formula fed until 8 months. I didn’t gain a ton of weight during pregnancy, but in the months following I did. Only after I stopped nursing did my body begin to return to normal and de-puff.

Now I’m nearly 3 months postpartum with my second, whom I’m nursing/pumping/formula feeding. Same story- didn’t gain very much weight during pregnancy but have since gained weight postpartum. I actually weigh more now then I did the day I gave birth. I’m exercising and have a healthy diet, with the allowance for the occasional dessert but nothing insane.

I am aware of the health benefits of breastmilk (please don’t shame me or remind me that breastmilk is healthier for baby, etc). I’m all for body positivity and honoring my body for creating two beautiful humans. I have no desire or expectation to be a fitness model, but I am so uncomfortable in my own body right now. I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life and cannot fit into most of my clothes. Even some maternity clothes are now too small on me.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and stopped breastfeeding because of the negative toll it was taking on their own body? Would appreciate any advice here. Thanks in advance ❤️
