Wake up baby at night to feed or let baby sleep ?

Question

So I’ve heard many different opinions. 
I have a 2 week old, and I’m hearing 2 things. 
1. Don’t wake up baby at night to feed, if he’s hungry he will wake up and cry and will let you know. 
2. Wake baby every 3 hours to feed then put back to sleep. 
Do you wake up your newborn ? 
Mine wakes up every 2-3 hours by himself, but just curious, is it wrong to not wake them up and feed them?

If baby is gaining weight properly there’s no need to wake them really.
If the doctor suggests waking up to feed for weight gain I’d listen to them.

I waited until he was back to his birth weight and then I started waiting for him to wake me up

We woke baby up every 3 hours until he passed his birth weight. After that we now let him sleep until he wakes up on his own. This is what our pediatrician recommended :) when in doubt ask your babies doctor

It seems all drs have different opinions but my dr says for the first month not to let them go more than 4hrs. Then after one month old as long as their weight is good and they’re gaining like they’re supposed to you can let them sleep as long as they want. My baby is 5 days old and generally sleeps anywhere from 3.5-4hrs at night. My daughter on the other hand was like every 1.5-2hrs 😳😂

I always let mine sleep till he wakes up bc if i wake him up he’ll get cranky and won’t drink properly or as much as he should.

It is really dependent on your baby and the situation and it needs to be advised by your pediatrician and not this group.  If your baby is not back up to birth weight, then it might be more likely you would want to wake to feed.  You likely aren't dealing with jaundice at 2 weeks, but that might be another reason early on.  
I have done both with different babies (same pediatrician that advised both ways based on the baby's needs)

If they have gained back to birth weight and no jaundice then let them sleep!
