Does this seem like its too soon?

Hey y’all my dad had a dog that we had for about 13 to 14 years that died in late April. Now the only two in the house are a family dog and my dog. Since my dad dog is gone, he was sad but seems better now. He basically acts as if my dog is his and I don’t like that very much. I asked him around Mother’s Day if he’s want another and he said eventually. My dads birthday is coming up at the end of the month so I wanted to ask him if he was ready for another dog and possibly go ahead and get one.
