Working out

When you workout do you pay attention to just calories , the intensity and duration, or all?

I’m starting to be more active. When I was on the treadmill for 20 minutes I noticed it only burned 100 calories for that duration. Since I’m beginning I didn’t want to push it too hard but enough to get my heart rate up and sweating. So I was about 3.5-4.0 speed, mainly 3.5. I felt a little discouraged because 100 calories doesn’t seem a lot. I went ahead and tried other machines but don’t know the calorie count. I mean I feel decent knowing I’m getting my heart rate up. Could I go harder down the line? Of course
