Smegma

This is really TMI I guess but the other day, my boyfriend was about to go down on me when he noticed there was some crusty stuff around my clit (like under the hood) and I got super embarrassed and decided to look for myself and saw there was a lot there. Literally hours before I took a shower and CLEANED my vagina (non-scented dove soap as my OBGYN suggested months ago) so i dont know why this happened. I googled it and it said it’s smegma which I didn’t even know could happen to women until now. Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of it FOR GOOD- if possible? Google doesn’t have too much info. I gently removed what I could but I don’t know if manually scooping it out is correct. I know for a fact everything was cleaned. This is just happening now and i dont know why. I’ve never had this issue before.
