Speech therapy?

Today my daughter had 18 month visit. She says about 6 words n follows simple commands and does signs. She is a pretty active girl and involves in all activities but doesn't talk yet, so her pediatrician referred to speech therapy. Is it really recommended or better to wait until she turns 2. She is not talking at this point but sure she will talk. She is our first baby. Please respond thanks in advance

It is never going to hurt getting an evaluation. If the SLP says she doesn’t need therapy yet than that’s that.

With my first I was a little concerned that he wasn't speaking at that age, but one of the women at daycare told me not to worry about it. She said it's like a switch gets flipped at 2. Sure enough, 2 rolled around and he started talking... A lot. And now at 5 I can't get him to stop 😂. It was the same with my second and with my nephew.
However, with that being said, if your doctor is concerned, I don't think there is any harm in at least going for the evaluation.

My view was I'd rather get evaluated and not need it than drag my feet thinking "it will happen some day" and have more to make up for. My son's godfather didn't get evaluated until he was 4 and they discovered since major muscle problems in his tongue, so I was a bit sensitive to the subject.
Our pediatrician have us the option of stuff therapy at 18m or schedule a special check up at 21m. He ended up starting it at 22m and only needed about 5m of therapy. He's 31m now and talking in full, complex sentences. Maybe he would be here without it, there's no way to know, but we saw an immediate improvement and it was well worth the time

Doesn’t hurt to get evaluated. My dude just turned 2 and he failed his language assessment at the pediatrician by 1 point so we were referred to a speech therapy evaluation. Our ped said she would almost bet they’ll say he doesn’t need actual therapy but she prefers that assessment be made by the speech professionals since he’s a little behind on some expected milestones. I was in speech therapy as a kid, nothing wrong with it.

I had my nephews from a young age. I was very worried about the second boy because he didn’t speak much, whereas his brother was a chatter box. I wanted to take him to a speech therapist but my mother told me to wait. Well, sure enough, one day he randomly started talking but in complete sentences. 
Kids will work things at their own time. I wouldn’t worry unless she was 3+. HOWEVER, it doesn’t hurt to see a specialist and get an evaluation. Just because it shouldn’t be cause of worry not, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to get ahead of any potential issue. 
If you can afford it, go for it. 
And remember the best thing you can do for a child is give unconditional love and let them be themselves.
