How did you know your job was right for you?

A lot of my friends talk about how when they started their job or internship it just felt right. They said it felt like it was what they were meant to do. However for me I’m good and talented at my job but it doesn’t feel right or exciting. I dread every day honestly. I however don’t know what else to do.

They paid me enough to keep going. Really that’s it. I don’t love my work, never have. I believe in working to support living a life you love. I’ve had plenty of jobs that I would have happily stayed at if the pay was better. And some I would have left way sooner if the pay was worse. It may be an unpopular opinion, but you don’t need to love your work.

My job fell into place perfectly. It was one of those “meant to be” type of scenarios. 
We had our house sold and moving back to the town we met in. I had a job lined up to become an Assistant GM at a hotel. Everything seemed great. Until the person I was replacing decided she wasn’t leaving. I had to quickly call the financing company for our new home to see our options, I had to find a job ASAP in same industry with similar pay. I started apply to all hotels panicking. I got a call the next day for an interview. Didn’t research or anything. I just drove 2 hours to get there. I pulled up to the hotel my family stayed at every vacation growing up! I was so excited. They said since I made it for interview on such short notice with a long drive, they wanted to do the interview over milkshakes. It was so nice. 
Two days later I got a job offer and I accepted. I’ve now been with the company over 6 years. 
I transitioned my role a bit and some days I truly dread it. But then I think back to how it all began and I do feel at home with the company. 
I got lucky that I lost the job I was supposed to move here for 😊

I knew when I bad days I didn't hate my job. A lot of people  never find the "right"job and many others can't continue  in the job they love.
