How to lose feelings for someone who is moving away?

an

I have been seeing this guy (M23) for over five months and he’s moving like 10+ states away from me sometime in the beginning of next year. We have both established that this isn’t going anywhere because he’s moving. I really like him and it made me more upset when he told me that if he wasn’t leaving, he’d be dating me for real now. He gave me a choice to whether or not keep this thing going on between us, because he basically said he wants to keep going but doesn’t want to force me to.

I told him as long as he doesn’t see other people, I won’t either. So we’re mutually sexually exclusive. I initiated to only be fuck buddies (we’d only text to have sex and then he can leave after, no cuddles or anything) so it wouldn’t be too complicated. He said he wouldn’t like it. He told me he doesn’t want to just have sex with me because he liked me as a person and as who I am. So I just said, okay, let’s keep going with what’s going on right now.

But I’m here writing this because I have feelings for him and I can’t just act a certain way and not be dating this person. I thought to myself that I could do “casual” dating with him, but I feel like it’s too late for that because I genuinely have feelings for him. I act tough just so it doesn’t seem like I’m into him so much. He shows the same actions towards me - he takes me on dates, sees me regularly even when we don’t have sex, we have deep conversations, etc. but it just doesn’t make any sense to me on why he would waste his time doing all the efforts as if he was my boyfriend just for him to end up not wanting anything with labels but literally doing everything people in a relationship do. He told me he’d be loyal to me and not see anyone else, and that he’d act the way he’s acting now if we were actually together.
