Puppy and baby??

Question

My husband and I have been talking about getting a puppy around November (baby boy turns 1 October 17) I’m nervous about how they will do together and like the extra work a dog brings. We’ve discussed getting a dog for a long time but we obviously don’t want to get a puppy while having a newborn and are planning on trying for baby #3 next summer (so we feel if we’re going to get a dog now is the time). Our daughter loves dogs and husband has always had dogs growing up. I’m just nervous about the puppy peeing everywhere and possibly hurting our son. Does anyone have a dog or puppy currently? How is it? If anyone has any advice please share??

We are in a different place because we had our dog first but they are absolutely best friends.  He is so sweet and patient with her.  I love watching them together.

I would wait until all your kids are 2-3 and done having kids. Just my own opinion (specifically for a puppy), older dogs might be easier to add if house trained but I’d worry about the dogs background

We have 3 dogs and usually foster puppies in pairs. My 9 month old has adored all of our fosters . However if you don't think it's a right fit then be honest with your husband, because it won't be fair to the dog

I have a dog! She’s obsessed with watching him and is always laughing at him especially when he’s running down the stairs. I can’t wait to see them grow together. We’re actually thinking about getting another this year

Do you feel like your family could take on a newborn right now? The situations are very similar with the amount of money, time and work they require. If you wouldn’t add a newborn to your family, then I wouldn’t add a puppy.

Our youngest dog is 4 now but as a puppy it was a handful. Similar to having a baby lol. He’d be up multiple times a night either wanting attention or needing to go out, endless amounts of pee and poo (until he was potty trained of course). I personally would wait a little longer.

Our German Shepherd loves our kids but when we got him as a puppy he was very mouthy and liked to bite, pretty common for his breed especially, but puppies in general. 
If we’d gotten him after my first son was born, I wouldn’t have let him stay longer than a month, and if he had he’d have had a miserable cooped up life away from the family. It wouldn’t have worked out. 
I see pets as part of my family and I couldn’t imagine putting myself in either scenario, but my kids are my first priority.

I would wait until baby 3 is out and older? Lol I feel like having pets is an extra child and can bring unnecessary arguments about who’s cleaning up after them, taking them out to go restroom, feeding them… we are going to try for baby 2 next summer.. and I told him after that when that baby turns 1 then we can get a dog so that’s my plan haha.. my son will be one this October also. Lol but with trying for another baby coming up soon I don’t wanna deal with another baby pet.
