How do you know he is ‘the one!’?

I met a guy and it felt like he was the one for me. I was dreaming of our life together..marriage..kids..us getting old and what not. But things didn’t go as planned. But deep down it felt like he was the one. But if he was the one then we should have been together no? So now I don’t even know if X guy is the one. Lol

personally, i dont believe there’s only one “the one”. i think we have multiple people who could possibly be “the one”. plus, people change too much to always be your “one”. my husband was a complete different person when we first met, and tbh back then he definitely wasn’t my “one” lol

For me I knew my husband was the one because with all my other bfs, if I thought of sometime in the future, for example wanting to travel to a certain place in a few years time, I would think 'oh if we are still together they should come with me' or whatever. With my husband however, no matter how far in the future I looked, my husband was/is in that picture with me, there was no question of 'if we are still together' he was/is just always there

I first met my husband in college, we had a class together. I didn’t have a “love at first sight” moment but I truly had a voice/vision/feeling in my mind the first time I saw my him that told me “he will be important in your life”. How would he be important? Didn’t know at the time. All I know is the feeling felt like shimmers of light and I felt peaceful after that. We got partnered together for a project a month or two later (I was single, he had a girlfriend) so nothing happened. We crossed paths again when he was newly single that following summer and not ready to date yet (after a dramatic FB post announcing his break up I reached out to him, apparently I was the only girl to not immediately ask him out hahahah) but then a couple weeks later I was casually dating someone, so again nothing happened. Finally a few months later I was single again, he was ready to date, and it all clicked. Life wanted us to be together. It has always felt right, even when we have hit rough patches. We never had to really fight for things to fall into place. Each little turn was a step back towards each other. When we got together, I realized that he made me want to be the best version of myself. We both think the other is out of our league. He would go to the ends of the earth for me, and I would go just as far for him. There is just something about him…I used to think home was a place. But my home is a person. My home is him. He is my person. I am his person. There’s just…something there. He is safety. He is love. He is warmth and comfort and protection and compassion and so many other things. I can’t imagine life without him. 
I’m sorry I’m rambling. Haha. Point being, you will know. I never had to ask the question “is he the one?”. Because he always was, the question didn’t need to be asked because I had my answer. In my bones I knew he was the one. He still is and always will be the one.

I noticed that I only wanted him and no one else. Yes, even though I was attracted to other men and some asked me out, saying no was easy. And after dates, saying goodbye to him was hard because I just wanted to be with him 24/7.
