Talking about marriage in passing…

Alexandra

I’ve been dating a guy for about a month and we’ve really been hitting it off! I feel like I’ve known him my whole life, despite only knowing each other for a short period of time. (We met on a dating app) I’m 24 and he’s 26, and we have a very respectful and mature relationship of discussing our boundaries, goals, emotions, etc. One of the topics he asked me about early on was my thoughts on marriage, which given that I grew up in a household with unhappy marriages, I’ve never felt the need to get married because I’m not religious and don’t feel the need to proclaim my love for someone through a ceremony. If I were to get married though, it would be because that’s important to my partner and it would be just going to the courthouse. He told me that he really liked and shared my views on marriage…meanwhile recently he’s been passively incorporating marriage into our conversations by saying things like “if we were to get married 5 years from now…” “if you were my wife…” I’m just curious, do guys talk about marriage if they don’t actually mean it?? Thoughts??
