Co-Sleeping?

My 3 day old will not sleep in his bassinet. He was 100% great at the hospital. But since being home he only sleeps a full 2-3 hours if he’s sleeping with me/his dad. There’s no trouble with him sleeping with me and his father, I just don’t want him to get in the habit of not using his own space to sleep. I know co-sleeping isn’t the “safest” but when he’s up for a full 8-10 hours because he refuses his bassinet, I gotta improvise. Any suggestions? Please no hate I’m a ftm and just trying to do what best for my son.

Co sleeping is innate, and biologically natural. Only in Western Culture have we deemed it “spoiling a baby” or “creating bad habits”. Don’t let anyone give you shit. Research safe ways to co sleep-I recommend @heysleepybaby on Instagram. Enjoy those snuggles, mama! 🥰

I’m on baby #5 and when they needed to feel mommy/daddy’s presence to sleep they got it. I held my babies all I wanted and co slept. My children are 20, 17, 16, & 12 and were not spoiled one bit until now (teenagers smh) Do what you feel is best just refrain from heavy blankets, lots of pillows and give baby some space so you don’t roll over on him.

Look up 4th trimester it’s definitely a thing 😊 also there is nothing wrong with co-sleeping as long as you look up how to do it safely and you can always move baby into the bassinet in a few days or weeks when they’re more settled into being at home etc.

My second would not sleep in her bassinet. I’d let her sleep wherever (safely) so we could all sleep, then during the day we practiced bassinet sleeping. She got a little bit better every day, until all of her naps and overnight sleep was in her bassinet. Her first week or so I slept in my husbands recliner or at an angle on the couch with her on my chest, or in her bouncer right next to me.

They’re also still adjusting to being in a less cozy, squishy, warm environment. It might take a little time before they get used to the bassinet. If you do choose to co-sleep, please make sure you’re following all safety guidelines.

There actually are studies on this. Co sleeping is safe when done right. Studies showed that mothers and babies are EXTREMELY sensitive to each other's movements. What you want to watch out for are other people/animals, bedding, and substances or meds that will alter your alertness. What medical professionals don't tell you is that more than 99% of mothers who smother were either intoxicated or heavily medicated. Just like alcohol. It's actually safe to drink a little during pregnancy; they just tell you not to because they don't trust you 😁

My LO would only sleep in our arms when we came home from the hospital, but cosleeping made me soooo nervous. We kept trying (no cry it out, just persistence) and after about a week and trying 3 different types of swaddles she was fine on her own. Do what is best for your family and what gives you the most peace of mind! There is no right answer!

I bought a moses basket with my first and it was the WORSE decision. I later purchased a sort of next to me crib and she slept like an angel in it up until 1 when we upgraded her to a big girl bed! I think the extra space really helped her get comfy and we never had any problems with her waking in the night unless she was looking for her dummy👏🏾 2nd ones due sept and will be in it from the start

We bed share with my 7month old. I bought a king sized futon on tatami mats so it’s on the floor. She has her own section next to me with no blankets and we have dunas (it’s winter where we are now) for us. I exclusively breastfeed so it is so amazing not having to get out of bed to feed her. I just roll her on the her side for feeding. I feel super safe about it and love having her next to me.

We had a bassinet right by the bed. I kept my hand in him and that was enough to keep him calm. I put him in once he had fallen asleep in my arms, put my hand on his chest with gentle pressure until he stopped wiggling around, and then kept my hand there with no extra pressure the whole time we slept. It worked like magic.
Just be sure you don’t have any pillows or blankets that could accidentally fall in the bassinet.
