Is my baby constipated?
New mom here: so my 7 month old started solids at 5.5 months old but didn’t really start eating/accepting solids until 6 months old. (She was exclusively breastfed before solids). Shortly after starting solids, she began getting constipated. The first time she strained so hard and started crying and nothing came out and there was even a tiny bit of blood in her diaper from her rectum. We fed her 1/2 a jar of purée prunes and she had a huge BM within 2-3 hours. After that we would have to feed her prunes every few days to help her go. But then the prunes stopped working. We would feed them to her and still a day later or more and nothing would come out. She was crying in pain when attempting to strain. Finally the pediatrician told us to use over the counter pediatric laxative which unplugged her right away. I’ve had tons of family and friends suggest putting prune juice in her bottles. This does nothing, and it seems to make her have huge spit ups after her bottles (before this she hadn’t spit up since she was a newborn). So now we are wondering if she has a food intolerance to prunes. We don’t give her anything constipating (no rice cereal, no bananas). She only eats puréed fruits and veggies (6 oz a day) and only drinks breastmilk with a little water at meals. I can’t tell if maybe she is having normal “adult looking” poos but that now because I’m trying so hard to help her avoid constipation again that I’m misinterpreting these more formed poos as constipation. The pediatrician recommended putting her on miralax for a month but I’m worried because of the reports I’ve read online about miralax being linked to neurological problems in children. This has been going on for 6 weeks now and I’m so confused and just want to help my baby poop!
Can someone tell me how often and what the poos looked like after their baby started solids?
