Need help understanding something from a car insurance medical claim please
I was rear ended on the 24th (a Saturday)s The lady admitted she was completely at fault due to being on her phone and didn’t see me.
I refused the ambulance but did go to the hospital to get checked out since I was hurting. I mostly complained about my left shoulder and that is even on the police report. The ER said my scans came back good and nothing was broken, I would just feel rough for a bit.
My claims rep (Progressive) called me Monday to ask if I was planning to seek any future medical treatment. I told her I didn’t know Bc my left shoulder was still really hurting. She asked if she could send me a medical release form to sign and they’d still pay up to $1,500 for any future medical bills related to my shoulder. I told her it was ok to send it. But when I talked to my husband he said not to sign it yet; It had only been 2 days since the accident, I was still sore and I may realize in a week or 2 that something was still wrong. So I didn’t sign it.
Last week I went to see my chiropractor Bc I was still having problems with my shoulder. He said he really wanted to see my X-rays and CT scans, and he requested them from the hospital.
The hospital just sent them over and his office called asking me to come in so he can go over them. I guess he has some concerns that the ER doctor didn’t see.
I’m worried what this means as far as my claim: I didn’t sign the release but told her at the time I wasn’t planning to seek future treatment except for my shoulder. Since she sent me the release to sign, and she also already sent the compensation check (which I DID NOT cash since I didn’t sign the release form), does this mean it’s already a done deal and closed out? Or if I tell my rep I got a second opinion and they have some concerns, and I didn’t sign anything, am I ok? I’ve never been in an accident before and didn’t know really what to say or do when she kept asking me to sign the forms. But my chiropractor told me to not sign anything so I didn’t.
