When did you take your child to the dentist for the first time?

My first was a late bloomer didn’t get teeth until after a year old. I didn’t take him tell 2 and a half. But apparently you’re supposed to as soon as they get teeth? My youngest is 16 months and has a lot of teeth. We take care of them and he doesn’t have any problems. And I’m feeling guilty for not taking him yet. But I cannot see him being able to sit in a chair and let them look at his teeth much less do a cleaning. It’s pain for me to even brush them. If he doesn’t have any dental problems, does he need to go this early?

Herr the standard is in September-november the years the turn 3. Unless needed earlier.

One year. We go to a pediatric dentist and young kids don’t sit in a chair by themselves. They lay on your lap with their head in the dentist’s lap and they basically just brush their teeth, count them, and discuss dental care. Our daughter just went last week for her first visit. We’re monitoring two potential concerns - a slightly discolored tooth (not due to plaque) and her lip tie that was corrected at 2 weeks but is still a bit low. A lot of early dental appts are also to get them used to the dentist so it’s not a scary place.

In england its recommended you take them along with you when you go (every 6 months) so they get used to being there, then when they have a tooth they try and look, with them sat with you. They don't have to sit in the chair if they don't want too... my eldest didn't sit by herself until she was almost 5, my second sat by herself at 18months. My baby (now 7 months) has been with me once although they didn't do anything and she has no teeth  but they also don't clean children's teeth here 🤷🏼‍♀️ they literally just check them

I didn't take my son until beginning of this year when he was 4. A lot of stuff kept me from being able to go earlier including his father, no one taking his Medicaid, & then his sensory issues and anxiety. The dentist I finally found to take his insurance was horrible so now I'm looking again.....

Here we go at first bday, then second bday, then every six months. It’s just to get the child acclimated to going and give parents education on how to care for those baby teeth as they start coming in. They also discuss things like discontinuing bottles, pacifier use, and apply fluoride.

My dentist recommended seeing my daughters at the age of 4

My dentist and my girls pedi says not even until age 3. Reasons why; all teeth should be in by then, they comprehend what is going on and understand what the dr is trying to do; more willing to open their mouth and sit still.
