HSV1 newly diagnosed
Hi all so I was newly diagnosed with HSV1 (aka Herpes) by my new doctor. I have no idea if it is oral or gential HSV 1 as I have never had an outbreak. Because most STD panels don't actually screen for herpes unless requested there is no telling how long I have had it (this new doctor just so happens to do full screens rather requested or not so that's how I ended up being tested). The doctor said it could have come from sex or even just something as simple as a kiss. I've been given the option of taking medication to reduce my likelihood of spreading it and of outbreaks. Has anyone taken the medication purely as a preventive? And if so are you just taking it daily forever? I'm in a bit of shock and I was just thinking about dating again, but now I don't even know how to have that conversation with guys especially since I don't know where my infection is located 😢
