Drowsy while sleeping/sleepy?

Okay so like, I get it you're tired or sleeping. But how can you not respond clearly if someone asks you something?

My husband, if he's really tired and falling asleep can't make any kind of coherent sentence or response if I'm talking to him. He won't even be sleep yet and he's all groggy and doesn't understand anything.

I'm always in a state where I can be fully alert and respond articulately no matter what.

Fucking tonight. Our roommate isn't home and his alarm started going off at 1am and woke me up out of a dead sleep. I turned over and asked my husband where our roommate's alarm was in his room so I could go turn it off. And he barely hears me and just mutters?? I had to ask him like 4 times before his words became clear.

And this happens before we go to bed too. He'll be walking around like a zombie? Mumbling and stuff instead of talking normally? Like we're not even in bed yet or anything and he's soooo groggy at night and just goes to sleep instantly. Who the heck does that when they're tired??

You're either sleeping or fully awake I don't get how anyone could just be "half awake' and it bothers me so fucking much. Like, if you're not sleeping and I'm talking to you why are you mumbling? Or in the middle of the night of one of the animals makes a noise he won't hear it or remember it? Tf?

Ugh I love my husband but this is like the ONE thing that irritates me so so much. Like you're either 100% sleep or 100% awake I don't get how there can be any in-between. The second I'm awake I'm 100% even if it's only for a few seconds. And he spends so much time waking up in the morning it's unreal. Is this normal?? Do you think he has a sleep issue?? And he's always snoozing his alarm or not turning it off right away. Like he doesn't hear it?? I'll wake up to a damn bird outside and be fully awake and conscious but he's over here and has no idea??

I'm so frustrated guys this whole alarm thing has me pissed. Like during the day he's totally fine it's just when he gets sleepy he gets like this.
