What would you do different to your home?

Me & my husband are hoping to build our home soon! For this who have built their home, what’s some advice you have or something you would do differently now that you’re in your home?

What i like is my room away from ny child's room.
What I dont like, the dining in the same area as the living room. 
I dont have a two story but I do have.to climb up my deck stairs to gain access to my house. Id change that. When I get old itll be harder to climb those stairs and this is our forever home(thankfully we are adding on two different sections of housing).

I wish I had allll the kitchen cabinets and drawers. Just a massive kitchen. And I want a walk in pantry. I also wish I would have switched out the bathtub our house came with for something I could actually relax in.

I have a decent sized pantry but I wish it was fully walk in! Also, no carpet at all but we do just in the playroom and bedrooms…also taller baseboards!

When my dad did his house, he put sensor lights in the kitchen, scullery and pantry. That was an awesome feature. He also had dimmers on all the lights.
In my childhood house, the lamps by the beds were built into the wall, I'd love to do that to this house. It's old fashioned but I loved it.

We built our house and the one thing I would change is I’d put a shower in all of our bathrooms. We have 6 bathrooms with 5 showers. I would have put a standing shower in that guest bathroom.

I have a bi level home and I wish I had a ranch.
I’d have my washer and dryer on the same floor as the bedrooms. 
I’d have more windows because the entire one side of the house has none and it can feel very dark. 
I’d like a real fireplace and larger front porch also.

Haven’t built a home but I always remember the movie about Loretta Lynn and when she was upset her husband planned to build a house together, when they resolved the argument she said she didn’t want the bedroom facing East and have the sun in her eyes in the morning 😅
I would definitely remember the direction of the sun in the process. I love indoor plants and they need the sun in winter.

Lots of windows in every room, large island in kitchen with seating for 4, no formal dining room, screened in patio, 1 level, bedrooms and master on opposite sides of house, large walk in shower big enough for 2 people together. Central air but a separate unit for the master bedroom so it can be cold enough for sleeping. (I live in south Texas) A mudroom or pass thru room to drop stuff when coming in from garage.

I haven’t moved into our newly built house as it’s still being built but I wished that I had a back up plan in case the date of move in gets pushed back, we were suppose to move in October but due to Covid we won’t be moving in until February. I still have hopes it’ll be earlier. 
I also wished that I went for a Walk In Pantry with how big my family is, we’re trying to conceive our fourth so that’ll mean we will be a family of 6 and will definitely need that pantry space!
