Medical bills in the US are crazy

I know this is the last thing I should be thinking about right now, but I just found out how much I will have to pay if I need a C-section. I am 37 weeks and baby is still breach so I contacted my insurance company to find out. Close to $9000 we will have to pay. On top of the $5000 we’ve already paid for prenatal care. On top of the lost income since I have no paid maternity leave. It shouldn’t be this way in the US. When I hear about the medical system in other countries I just want to scream. For us, that amount of money will set us back for several years. And I just want to focus on having a healthy baby instead of worrying about how the hell we will pay for a c-section. Thank you for letting me vent. Healthcare reform needs to happen NOW.
