did you go through with circumcision for your son?

My OB starting telling me that when they give babies circumcisions they literally give them a “sugar shot” which is something like gripe water to basically give their liver a drunk feeling when having their penis cut and he started laughing saying how it’s really funny to see their reaction once getting cut I’m disgusted and honestly feel grossed out that he thought it was something to laugh about

That's really cruel and upsetting to have a doctor joke around about that, I'm sorry 😣. We chose to leave our son intact, but my doctor never made me feel uncomfortable while explaining circumcision to us 😬, I'd complain, or find a new doctor tbh.

I have 2 boys, both circumcised, but if this baby turns out to be a boy I will leave him intact. I don’t think it’s medically necessary and it’s an unnecessary procedure to put your baby through.

That’s a shitty thing for your OB to say to you. Sounds unprofessional asf. & to answer your question I left my son intact there was no way I was going to allow my son to have that done. What’s more screwed up my L&D room was literally next door to where they preformed them and the lady who handles the birth certificate paper came in to let me and my boyfriend know that that’s why we heard so many babies crying I was disgusted

Mom of three boys, all circumcised, no complications for any. Mine did not have sugar water for procedure but with my oldest they dipped a paci in it to try to get him to take pacifier. None of my babies took a pacifier. The two most recent babies never had sugar water, but I know it’s used sometimes for vaccine pain etc. My last was circumcised while in nicu and I know he definitely didn’t have any as he was there for hypoglycemia.

They have it in a podcast form as well as long form article if you want more details. It helped us make our decision.

That’s an odd reaction for a doctor to have, but the sugar water has a pain relieving effect and they don’t really feel it. I had my son circumcised in 2019 and he only very briefly cried and was not otherwise bothered by it. He healed fine with no complications.

They give oral sugar water on a pacifier. Some doctors use local numbing (Lidocaine) while others use a topical numbing agent. 
I have witnessed many circumcisions. We left our son intact. It is easy to clean.

I was there for the procedure for our son and they did a lidocaine injection to numb the area before cutting anything, it's not just a 'shot of sugar' for pain, just for your info. At least that was the case for us. They did give him the pacifier with sugar on it that totally distracted him.
I don't think I'd be going back to that doctor though. I'd ask to schedule with a different doctor at the same practice or look for a new practice. Sounds like his bedside manner could use massive improvement.
