TTC - Need some encouragement

Long post, but please hang with me. We’ve been trying to conceive our second child for a month. I know it’s incredibly early to be discouraged, but our first was conceived immediately and I’ve had some medical issues that I’m nervous are impacting our chances.

About a year after our first was born, I started getting a yeast infection with every period. It was unbearable. I went to my doctor and her suggestion was to go on the pill and suppress my period long term, since the two were always correlated. I wasn’t thrilled about this option, since I didn’t really want to go on birth control again. I asked what the root cause might be and my doctor shrugged her shoulders and said “hormones!” She had no interest in talking about this further and offered no other solutions.

Fast forward eight months. I’ve been yeast-infection and period free, but then I start spotting and eventually having “day one” of a period every two weeks — yeast infection included. I decided to go off the pill, since it wasn’t doing what it was supposed to and we knew we were going to be TTC in late summer of ‘21. I have the heaviest period of my life (not surprisingly). My next one arrived 20 days later and was normal, but the my cycle lengths got longer, with the longest cycle being 49 days. My average cycle length is now 31 days.

I had my annual exam in August and saw this same doctor. We talked about my cycles and she decided that I should do a blood test which came back normal. Since any cycle longer than 35 days is abnormal, she says I was likely not ovulating normally during the 49 day cycle.

My concern is that my chances of conceiving have been impacted by suppressing my period for so long. I raised this concern to my doctor, but she insists that all of the pill impact is “out of my system” by now. Overall, I trust medical professionals, but I can’t help but be angry with her since my cycle was normal before and I know there have been studies showing the impact of the pill on fertility.

I am in the process of changing doctors since I dislike her preference is just to treat symptoms and not find a root cause.

Additionally, I know I ovulated in August since I took ovulation tests. Now, my period is late, but I I’ve tested negative. I’m also experiencing some symptoms that are typical of PMS (and early pregnancy) but that I preciously didn’t (or rarely) experience: tender breasts, more cramping, etc. I DID have a yeast infection that I treated but still haven’t had my period.

I feel like I’m in limbo.
