Baby responding to name

My baby usually (like 80% of the time) responds to his name when I call from across the room or I’m standing a little distance away (like 5+ feet away) but rarely responds/looks at me when I call his name from a closer distance. Like if I call his name when I’m holding him or sitting right in front of him he doesn’t look at me. Is this something other babies do too or is it something to bring up with his pediatrician? He is 10 months old.
