Hcg level rising and dropping and then rising again

Hey everyone. So I had an ultrasound done at 5w4d and everything looked normal. No sign of ectopic pregnancy or anything abnormal. Took a blood test that day and my HCG level was down to 2. Was told by doctor that I was having a miscarriage. She was surprised but said this could happen even if ultrasound looked normal. So then I accepted that fact and decided to just wait for things to happen. Today is 4 days after and still no bleeding and cramping at all and so I’m going in to get a D&C.

Had a strange feeling and decided to take a pregnancy test today because of it and test came back even darker than before when I first got my BFP. I’m so confused and don’t want to get my hopes up but my mom and I have had similar pregnancies and she told me her numbers went up and then down and here I am.

I want to know if any of you have ever experienced this. I talked with a family member who is a nurse for an OB-GYN clinic and she said that if your hormones are out of whack this can happen but that it’s very rare. I don’t want my hopes to go up and have an appointment on Monday but am so confused. With my last miscarriage I never experienced this and once I knew I would miscarry and my numbers were low, I stopped getting positive pregnancy tests.
