Right thing to do?
Listen. I bought a car on August 21st. The process was really not exciting. We went to the Toyota lot, they didn't have any vans available. We went to Honda, and they had two. We bought a 2022 Odyssey right there.
They didn't go over anything with us. Maybe they were annoyed we had two kids. We didn't even test drive it. When we went to drive it off the lot, we couldn't even figure out how to put it in drive. Ha. So we didn't know anything about it. The staff basically just filled out our paperwork and tried to sell us a ton of stuff and warranties. Whatever, we got the car.
We were given a 60 day temporary tag. Well, that expires on the 24th. I called the DMV to see what we needed and they mentioned the title. I call the dealership and they say they have the title and we can come get it or they can mail it. We live over an hour away, so I asked them to mail it, in a voicemail I left with the title clerk. She never calls back. I leave another voicemail. No return call.
3 days later I call and ask to physically speak to her since voicemails don't help. I speak with her, she is brief, abrupt, and not friendly. She says she mailed the title and she confirms my address.
A week later, no title. I mean, this place isn't on Mars. I know USPS is slow these days, but a week seems concerning. So, I call. I ask to speak to someone other than the title clerk, like a manager. I'm on hold for 5 mins, then disconnected. I call back, ask again. I'm put on hold, then transferred to someone's voicemail. I leave a voicemail. A few hours pass, I don't hear anything. Yes, I know that's not terribly long to wait, but we are 11 days from having an expired temp tag. So it's urgent. I get the same lady's voicemail.
At this point I'm angry. Does no one work at this place? Like, why can't I speak to a human? I feel like they're playing games. So I go ahead and I leave a review on Google. Let's be honest: it was scathing. It wasn't just one star, it hit them where it hurt. I called our employees who had wronged me by name. I didn't hold back.
...I get a call within 1 hour. The General Sales Manager says his boss contacted him and asked him to reach out. He apologized and said he was frustrated for me. He said if we end up having a late fee, they will pay it. He tells me to come in and he will personally explain the car features and give us a tank of gas for the trouble. He gives me his direct contact information so that I can address any future problems with him. He promises no one else will ever receive this experience.
I tell him I appreciate his apology, as I do. I express my frustration. I tell him the only reason we purchased from them was because they had the van in stock. It was luck on their part, as we received zero customer service and we spent $45k. I explain it's messed up they call me not because of my many voicemails, but because they saw my review. He sends me his number and the tracking information for my title. I thank him and get off the phone.
...two hours later...
He texts me requesting I take my review down or edit it to "be more fair to my entire experience". This rubs me the wrong way. This man is trying to censor me. Shut me up. I told him I would consider it, once my title is in my hand. I am conflicted because I do feel like my review was harsh, but justified. And they are literally only trying to protect their image. They don't care about my experience. If I hadn't written the review, they would have never called me. Maybe I should edit the review? But I'm hesitant to give them more credit than they deserve and I want to have my title first. This has all been a frustrating nightmare.
