I need help

I am trying to track my ovulation and trying to understand when to have sex but I think I am doing it wrong. So I test morning night and on the 14th in the evening I surged so we had sex that day and the next. Should we be trying days earlier. And two days after ovulation I felt like I had egg white mucus so I am just sooo confused. Can anyone provide me advice suggestions. Trying to get pregnant but not sure what is the best approach as everywhere I read tells me something different.
