Croup questions?

My 22 month old went to sleep completely fine around 8:30 on Wednesday and woke up around 9:30 with a terrible cough, it progressed through the night and Thursday morning I called his doctor, she listened over the phone, figured it was croup, sent prednisolone to the drug store for me to give him for 3 days and that was about it. The cough seemed to get better through out the day and then got worse Thursday night. But it wasn’t really a barking cough. Just very dry. Then by Friday it seemed to start slightly loosening up but every time he coughs and can’t stop he pukes. His nose was runny a couple days out of it. And today his cough was very mucus sounding but he is still throwing up with coughing spells and barely has had an appetite. We’re supposed to be leaving for Florida on Thursday and I’m considering just cancelling the whole trip because I’m a nervous wreck. Is this croup? Is this what croup sounds like it your child has had it before? What can I do to help my little man😣 my heart aches seeing him like this
