It Bothers Me So Much When People Say “ My 20 Month Old.”  Or Anything Past 12 Months Honestly. Like Girl Just Say Yo 1 1/2 Yr Old Or Some . Like People Hold On To The Months Like It’s Their pregnancy & It Just Ugh , It’s Annnnnnnoying !!!!!

🙋‍♀️ I do it 🤣 but in my defense, I took child development in college and now teach prek, there’s a big difference in a 12 month old and a 17 month old. And my youngest turned 19 months yesterday 😃

There's is meaningful developmental change between 12 months and 15 months, 15 and 18 months, etc up to about 24 months. The clothes are even marked as such. It gets a little ridiculous beyond that, but often preemies are even still age adjusted up to age 2.

Do you have kid(s)? I ask because I never understood it either until I had my son. Its because the developmental level at 12 mos is so different than 20 mos. My son is going to be 18 mos, but he's so tall that ppl assume he's already two.. so they assume that he can talk in sentences or even be potty training.... But he just turned 18 mos!! So yes. It matters and I'll probably continue until he reaches 24 mos!

A 12 month old is at a very very different developmental stage than a 23 month old so it makes sense to say months through then if you’re referring to milestones.  My son was a preemie and our doctors office and pt use months and adjusted age until 3.  Now that my son is 2 though, I’ll just say “just turned 2! About 2 1/2 now, almost 3!” Until he turns 3.
I’m not sure why so many people are concerned about how others say it though 🤷‍♀️

I do it until 24 months! Then after that all say just 2.5 or 3 I don’t really go by every month anymore

I think you just need to know your audience and move on from there. You can’t control others, so why let them bother you🤷‍♀️.

I think after 2 it’s annoying. But there is a big difference in a 13 month old and a 20 month old.
