Food packs for students
My husband is a great teacher and is much beloved by his students. Its his first year and he hasn't had issue connecting and gaining the trust of his students. We recently watched some videos on food insecurity and how teachers can be so helpful with this. Although his school does have options for this, I was once a homeless teen and I know I would have never gone to the counseling center for food. However I know I would have possibly accepted a care package from my teacher if I trusted them. (His school has no rules against this so long as the items are prepackaged).
I plan on making some packs with basics and also giving him a small pantry with some customized items (he'll let them pick 1 snack and 3 other items like hot sauce, seasonings, etc.) My Oma gave me a decent amount of money to use for making our home over now that my husband graduated and got into his career... but I think I would rather use some of that money to help kiddos in need. Were not ready to foster yet but I can perhaps help kids this way should they need it. I know sometimes parents can be too proud to ask for help and I know that sometimes kids do end up picking up the slack.
I was planning on putting the items into a drawstring sports backpack, that way they don't look like they're walking away with charity. I'll be purchasing from the store and/or the dollar tree depending on price and quality.
If you've struggled what things would you have wanted in a pack. Beyond the basics ill be adding I want to add things like baking packages, some snacks, etc. Then kinds of things that seem to frivolous to buy when struggling.
