Let's talk about gaslighting...
I see posts all the time that say "is this gaslighting" or accusing people of gaslighting. As a therapist, it's hard to see this word misused so often. I want to give you real life examples of gaslighting. A personal story that happened today.
My husband texted me and said, "you couldn't mix the beans and rice together?"
To which I responded by saying I wasn't sure if he wanted them mixed and asking why it bothered him so much.
He says: "This is an example of rationalization of laziness."
He then proceeds to tell me I'm "an emotional train wreck." And that he "hopes I feel better soon."
I am not lazy for not mixing his food together for him. I got up at 5:30 and made the damn lunch.
I am not an emotional train wreck for being hurt by his words.
And "hoping I feel better soon" implies I am ill or struggling for reasons unbeknownst to him.
This will be dealt with. He will be educated. This is unacceptable. For me and for anyone.
Not sure where the negativity is coming from. And all the "therapist" references.
