Not doing Santa....

I am a Montessori teacher, and part of the Montessori philosophy is not telling our own children things that are not true - many/most Montessorians don't tell their kids Santa is a real person, but a Christmas "character" that makes celebrating the holiday more fun, like an ghost or a witch on Halloween. This is what I'm planning on doing, but I am anticipating backlash from my husband's family. Anyone have any experience with this? NOT trying to say there's a wrong or a right way to do Christmas ... Everybody makes their own choices for their family.
