why induction?

if y'all don't mind me asking..i see a lot of women on here that have scheduled inductions, can i ask why? i thought normally inductions are for women close to 42 weeks? why get one if it's not medically necessary?

I’m surprised they do them unless it’s for a medical reason too! Where I am they would never induce you until you are over( given there is no medical reason )

I asked for mine to be anytime after I hit 39 weeks (currently 37 weeks). I have HG, GD, get weekly iron infusions and just all around over it. The pressure and pain in my hips/groin area makes it hard to do anything.  If I would of had an easier pregnancy maybe I’d be willing to let her bake longer but that’s not the hand I was dealt.

I do think it’s offered a bit too much in the US. Other countries don’t seem to have such a high induction rate. 
I am scheduled for an induction due to GD. I’m still hoping he comes on his own before then though.

I would say probably almost everyone getting an induction has it done because it’s medically necessary. I.e., baby and mom are safer if baby is out of the womb than if baby stays in

Horrible maternity leave- I’m not scheduled to be induced but I wouldn’t mind it if offered at 40 weeks (not early). I only have twelve weeks home and I don’t want to spend any of it waiting for labor.

Im getting one at 38+4 because of Gestational Diabetes and a big baby. Baby has been measuring 3 weeks ahead since the 12wk scan and at our last growth scan at 35+4 he was measuring 40wks and estimated 7lb13oz (i know they can be off by a pound either way). With Gestational diabetes the placenta can start to break down sooner which is why they like to induce us sooner than our due dates. I also have other kids and no one to watch them within a 3hr radius so being induced means I can organise family to watch them. Of all 3 labours I've had, my longest was 3hrs from first contraction, even when induced, so if I went naturally into labour I doubt family would get here in time.

I’m in Canada and have a scheduled c-section as I had one with my first son. They only do it a week before due date at 39 weeks. You can’t ask to be induced here either, the dr decides if it’s medically necessary.

This is my second pregnancy and I am 36+5. I have requested absolutely no induction due to complications from my first. It was around the same time when my waters broke that I went into hospital. I had a cerclage in place so that had to be quickly removed. I had already started contracting and was strongly recommended induction to get things progressing quickly to avoid infection. I agreed, then proceeded to have a side effect known as hyper stimulation where the contractions are back to back and don’t stop. They had to counteract this with another drug and this slowed my process down. I ended up having a long and traumatic 18hour birth experience with all kinds of drugs to stop and start me again. All because of the induction. After much research, obstetrician appointments and expert advice induction is most of the time unnecessary and is used to get the ball rolling and sometime in case of high risk. In this pregnancy I am high risk with a cerclage, pre term labour risk, and GB. The high risk obstetricians have all said I definitely do not need one and that it will be avoided at all cost unless absolutely necessary. If you choose to have an epidural and induction at the same time, then you won’t feel the intense pain  and side effects that comes/can occur with that and that is a personal choice but I really want this time to be as natural as possible for me. Inductions are knows to make labour longer. Our bodies are made to birth ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I have never heard of anyone getting them unless it’s for a medical reason. I’m having twins and they’re full term at 37 weeks, so that’s why I’m getting induced.
