Advice needed - should I ask about the time off?

So I have been job hunting for a bit now, I stopped a little bit ago just because I’m going to visit family over the holidays dec. 13-23 and felt like it would make more sense to wait til after. I can’t reschedule my trip or I will lose money…plus my grandma is sick, so I really would like to see her. Well, this front desk hotel job responded from an application I submitted awhile ago… they are very interested in hiring me right away (like, this Sunday…). If only the timing was more convenient. 😩 Should I even bother asking if they will work around my VERY soon vacation? I almost feel silly doing that and I don’t know if it’s appropriate.

If you already decided that it wouldn't be a big deal to wait to find a job until you come back, I wold absolutely tell them you're interested but you have a pre-planned engagement and cannot start until X date. They will either work with you or they won't but it won't hurt to ask

Absolutely go through with the interviews and such. Any reasonable business understands pre-scheduled vacations during the holidays, especially as your trip is coming up so soon. It’s not like you were interviewing 4 months ago and demanding the holidays off. Your trip is so close.

most jobs will definitely accommodate you, just simply tell them you have no problem starting right away but you do have a vacation planned that you cannot back out from and it they're are willing to work around that or maybe have you start after you are back. doesn't hurt to try

You can try. As a hiring manager in the hospitality industry, everyone is hiring for the holidays. I’m not even considering someone who wants time off for Christmas or New Year’s. It’s my number one interview question right now. Definitely put it out there, but expect to be turned down or even let go if you don’t say something. Holidays are all hands on deck at a hotel or restaurant

It is VERY unlikely for an employer to give you time off especially during the holidays as a new employee. There may be a blackout period for new employees. It's best if you just doesn't accept the offer until you're back from your trip and you won't have to worry about work. You can let them know you cannot start until x date. They may or may not be willing but it doesn't hurt to try. I wouldn't keep looking until after the holidays. It's the busiest time of the year

I'd ask them if you start now if they'd work around it or if they could wait until you're back. Tell them this is something you've already planned for. If it doesn't work out just take it as a sign that it wasn't meant to be.
