To Registry or Not To Registry?!?!?!

Hello everyone!!! First time mom here, however my husband has children from previous relationships. 
So my family is on the east coast and his family is on the west, because this is my first child we both agreed to have a baby shower on the east coast because that's where majority of my family and friends are located along with his mom and a couple of his family members.
Now the issue(not really, more of a debate lol). So I'm pretty much the last one out of all my family and friends to have a baby, so of course this entire journey is new to me, I expressed having a Registry just so it won't be so many multiples of things, he suggest we wait until after the baby shower to do/complete a Registry just so people do not feel limited to what they can/cannot get. (We will be doing another one on the West coast for our friends and family out here).
Just curious what others think 🤔

The main point of a registry is to create one well BEFORE having the baby shower so that guests can get you items that will actually be helpful to you and you are less likely to get unnecessary duplicates. Most people purchase a gift only for the shower, so completing the registry afterwards will be kinda pointless. Those who want to go off-script and buy something not in the registry are still going to do that. But people who want guidance will have that with a registry. That, and many registry’s will give you a descent discount on unpurchased items after the date of your baby shower.

I would say definitely do a registry. It helps people to have an idea of what you want. Since so many people in your family/friends already have kids, you can ask them for recommendations for what to put on your registry if you want to! You also might find some things that are unique to your style that you would like to put on your registry that perhaps no one has thought of before!

I’d say do a registry before. Becuase y’all have kids already people don’t know what you already have or not. It gives people a guideline of what to buy

I would do a registry. There are places where you get a free baby box for setting up a registry that has at least one gift purchased from it. Plus, if people don’t want to buy from the registry- they won’t. It’s a really good guideline to see what your tastes/preferences/needs are. Then, if you have a registry- you get a discount when you buy the rest of the stuff you need/want.

Do a registry!!!! Some people have no idea what you need/want, so they need a bit of guidance! I did mine on babylist which is super helpful because it uses all the major companies, like walmart and Amazon and compares prices for you! And super organized! Trust me your gonna want one! Sooner rather than later because then people can plan to get you stuff ahead of time! Plus when people have already gotten an item it shows everyone someone already got it so you won't get multiples!

Well usually the registry is done so that people know what you guys need and want 😊 if you do it after it sort of defeats the purpose. Though he may be coming from a good place in not limiting what people buy, I think weddings and baby showers are known for gift registries so friends and families know what exactly it is they should gift you. You may end up with lots of wants and less “needs” without a registry. Things on my registry that IDK if my friends would think about giving me are like baby diaper creams, ointments, nail clipper, bedding etc.  and I probably would have just got a whole bunch of cute clothes lol.
