December 2nd 6:56am

Baby girl; 6 pounds 13 ounces, 18.9 inches

Went in for 39 week midwife appointment on Dec 1st (39w1d) at 1pm and they offered a stretch and sweep. I accepted (2cm dilated, 40% effaced and stretched to 3cm)… started having bloody show with cramping pretty much immediately after.

By 10pm I was having what I thought were contractions, so I started timing them; they were pretty much on average around 8 minutes apart and lasting for 1 minute each. I wasn’t able to sleep through them at all and I was just resting in between, so by 2am I got bored and decided to shower to pass the time. 2:30am I got ready for bed, and put on a diaper (don’t know what made me do this but I’m glad I did). Had a contraction in bed, and on the next contraction at 2:45am my water broke (THANK YOU DIAPER FOR SAVING MY BED).

I paged my midwife to let her know about my water breaking and she said to call back when my contractions are four minutes apart or when I can’t talk through them anymore. Not even 15 minutes later my contractions jumped to 2 minutes apart so I called to let her know we’re on our way to the birth centre.

We arrived at the birth centre at 3:45am, got checked in and I was at 4cm dilated and 70% effaced at 4am. I laboured for a bit and at 5:30am, I was at 7cm dilated and 90% effaced. I seemed to be progressing very fast and was in a lot of pain so at 5:45am I was checked again, 9cm dilated and 100% effaced. I laboured for a bit more and then my body started pushing, I’m not sure how long the pushing stage was but she was born at 6:56am!

The whole experience was very fast and super painful, but overall it went super smoothly with no complications. I have a minor tear that didn’t require stitches so I’m super happy. Baby girl is amazing and she’s perfectly healthy as well. 💖
