How to stop thumb-sucking?

My son is 20 months and I think it’s time to put a stop to the thumb-sucking. He used to only do it to get to sleep or when he was sick/upset but he’s been doing it a lot more the past few weeks and he actually got a blood blister!! I feel awful. He has never taken a pacifier. I was wondering what products or methods helped you? How long did it take, etc. appreciate the help!!

Try reintroducing a dummy again and bandage up the thumb so access is limited to it...I did this with my girl at about 11 months cause her thumb was destroyed from sucking /chewing it, removed the dummy about 2months after and she has never returned to thumb sucking

My son is 3 and still sucks his thumb. He was only doing it to fall asleep but now it’s increased to him sucking it when he’s around us or laying down and all night. I found the thumb guard online at Walmart I plan on ordering it soon!

they sell thumb sucking finger guards, you can find them on amazon. might be kinda dramatic looking, but you definitely wanna try & stop this asap. my parents didn’t do much to stop it, & they were never consistent. i’m now 26 & still suck my thumb. after a certain age, it’s impossible to stop.

I was told when he is ready to stop they stop but its not true. My son is 13 and still sucks 2fingers to go to sleep occasionally. Im fortunate that he doesnt need braces.

You could try apple cider vinegar, just make sure he doesn't rub his eye
