How to handle sensory overload as a parent?
Both of my kids are randomly loud screamers, they’re 3 and 1. I have autism myself and find myself not being able to handle the loud screaming for no reason. It honestly enrages me. I know this is a normal kid thing but I don’t know how to cope with it. Do I just leave the room? Try to cut out the behavior with time-out?
What I’m talking about exactly is this kind of situation:
*kids are playing Legos on the floor. I’m reading/doing something. It’s relatively quiet. “AHHHHHH!!!!” one of them screams at the top of their lungs in the highest pitch possible.*
This sends my heart rate skyrocketing. I absolutely hate it.
