Why is therapy not covered by most insurances?

Like the only insurance that has ever covered therapy is my disability insurance. But therapy is so expensive who can cover $150 a week if its not covered by insurance. Even if it would just bring the cost down.
Especially if both spouces end up needing therapy. Who has $1200 a month to spend on therapy? And it takes a while to find out if you mesh well with your therapist or not too so it might all be for nothing anyway.

Most clients have insurance coverage and pay 25-40$ a session as copay once deductible is met. 
There are typically community mental health clinics that take state insurance/no insurance and will see clients for free or extremely low cost

My EAPs have always covered between 3 and 6 sessions and then beyond that my regular health insurance kicks in.

If medication isn’t required try reaching out to them. Also know that most churches, Catholic charities, women’s community centers etc offer free counseling. The other is an app 24 hour support. Any kind of doctor.

It’s still definitely not cheap but before I had insurance I used cerebral. It was $325 a month for weekly therapist sessions, monthly psychiatrist sessions, and med management. If you don’t need medication it’s even cheaper. 
Unfortunately lots a therapists don’t take insurance due to the strict outlines that insurance requires
