"What did they do 200 years ago?"

My husband annoys me sometimes. I currently breastfeed our 11 month old. She will be one this month. Before that, I breastfed our 2.5 year old for 13 months. I'm pregnant again. It hurts to nurse. My daughter doesn't seem as interested in nursing anymore. She loves solid food!

...but my husband keeps telling me I need to nurse her as long as possible, due to a health issue she had a few months back. I never really intended to go past 12-14 months with her, and honestly were limping to the one year mark. I told him she doesn't really like to nurse and it's possible my milk tastes differently now that I'm pregnant. He says, "sometimes I think you just make stuff up. Like seriously? What did women do 200 years ago? They didn't just not nurse." He always says this to me. Anytime I mention someone can't breastfeed or if I mention something like a potential allergy a baby might have. "I don't believe that. What did women do 200 years ago? Babies just nursed."

It's really obnoxious and annoying. And honestly, I don't know the answer, but I bet some babies unfortunately died from starvation or other things 200 years ago. 🤦‍♀️
