in-laws lost my wedding ring

My husband, two kids, and myself lived with my in-laws for about four months while we transitioned from apartment living to buying our first house. We moved out the day before Thanksgiving and didn’t quite get all of our stuff. But we called it a night at about 1am with the plan on moving the remainder of our things the next evening. I mean it was not a rush. Our new house was a mile down the road, and the rooms we were using were just empty rooms that no one used. There was no talk of us needing to be out by a specific time. Nothing like that. The next day (Thanksgiving) we traveled two hours to go visit my family. Little did my husband or I know that those 5 hours we were gone my Mother-in-law was telling my father-in-law to clear all of our stuff. Y’all, we had personal records, I had my lifesaving medications and medical equipment, my wedding ring, and honestly, just some very personal stuff in that room.

When we showed up for Thanksgiving at my in-laws house they had put all of our stuff in trash bags. Well, my wedding ring, which was in the night stand was no where to be found. We looked through everything! I did talk to my Mother-in-law her words with little emotion, “Well, I hope you find it.” I am devastated. I have moved 15+ times in my 28 years, and have never been a sentimental person because of it, but this wedding ring was the one thing I am sentimental about.

Now my husband is saying “I’ll buy you a new one” because he is too afraid to confront his parents, but we live paycheck to paycheck, are about to have a baby, and I could never put us through that financially. I seriously have cried so much about this.

I’m mostly just posting to vent, but I would love some feedback on what you would do, if anything.
