Small house warming

I'm hosting a small house warming and a small birthday for my 5 year old. I only invite people who I associate with which is my side of the family. Here comes my MIL telling me to invite my husband side of the family. I told her I'm only inviting close family and it's a small event. She goes " oh well they (husband side) don't invite to stuff but you guys shouldn't be like that. Just let them know to come over" hmmm no right? Like no way I'm doing that when we don't ever associate with them. Like my mil don't like it when I involve my side of the family.
