Shawl as a Nursing Cover?

*This isn't intended to start a debate about whether covering in public while nursing is good or bad. I just wanna know if this idea will work*

I'm a ftm and my baby boy is due on March 10. I plan to breastfeed but I'm extremely shy and the idea of nursing in public makes me feel terrified. I'm determined to try though and I think if I cover up a little, I'll feel more secure and I'll be able to do it. My question is would a normal shawl work as a nursing cover? Where I live is normally still chilly in March so it would keep the little guy warm and I don't think it would draw as much attention as the nursing covers that specially made for that purpose. It would probably stay in place better than a blanket too. Would it be okay to use?
