Donating Umbilical Stem Cells?

Just wondering if anyone here has donated their babies umbilical stem cells/blood for cancer or other research programs?

With all the amazing science going on with curing HIV with stem cells from the left over umbilical chord I am just in awe and would love to help save lives! We aren't interested in keeping it for ourselves so I imagine it just goes to the trash if we don't donate it. I'm going to speak to my OB to find out a little more but didn't know if any other moms could tell me more about this process & what I need to do. Thanks!
