waisting his time

my boyfriend and i are freshman in college, and have been together for a little over 5 months. He came to me last night with some concerns about our relationship. he said that he loves me and our relationship is perfect but he can’t help but feel like he could be waisting his time. and part of him wants to play the field. he says that he’s worried we’ll date for two years and break up and he will have waisted his freshman and sophomore years. he said he’s going to have a conversation with his sister because she was in a 5 year relationship that ended. i don’t know what to do.
