What’s a polite way to ask for a raise?

I want to send an email about a raise. I just found out a family member was hired on making $4 more then me. Probably because of inflation. Please give an example of a professional way to ask. Thanks.

An email isn’t the way to ask you need to ask in person. Do not discuss the other persons pay at some jobs that’s a fireable offense. State the points why you feel you should be given a raise. These things should 100% pertain to you and your skills and not be about what someone else is making.

In my opinion, it really depends on your relationship with your boss and the structure of the company, so what works for me may not work for you. Sometimes I send a calendar invite to discuss my performance throughout the past year. Sometimes I pick up the phone and call if I’m feeling confident that day lol. Do it on a day they’re not super stressed.. and explain why you deserve it. Base it on your skills, not inflation.
