Bf should I be suspicious

My boyfriend have been together for 5 years on and off just about.

I never ever wanted to have sex because I wanted to wait till marriage now I’m 22 and I’m having different thoughts about it.

He had sex before when he was 16 but hasn’t since he has been with me. We have done other stuff just not that. I brought it up with him last night and I said would you if I wanted to and he said no… which was a first because he always said he would before. His reason for not wanting to unless we were married was because he doesn’t want to get me pregnant….. he doesn’t believe in abortion so I guess I sort of understand but not really….he doesn’t and has never been overly religious. All his friends go out drink and get with girls so I don’t really get it.

Like I’m 22 I don’t see myself getting married this year or next and he said he the earliest he would get married at 25. I’m starting to think he’s reasoning isn’t true and there’s an underlying cause. He comes from divorced parents and would want me to get pregnant and like no security without marriage. I don’t know how true this is…. It got to the point where I asked if he might of been interested in other sex and he got pretty pissed and said no.

I’m genuinely just confused why he all of a sudden has this view out of nowhere. Am I overreacting and being stupid.
