Castor oil?

So my doctor said I can try castor oil to induce she’s never seen anything negatively associated with it. Has anyone used it and successfully induced labor?

I've never heard a doctor recommend it as it can be very dangerous. Personally I wouldn't take this advice or recommend it to anyone.

Did they do a membrane sweep? I’m surprised they would recommend this before other options. I know that they say other stuff can counteractive castor oil effects but it’s just such a harsh laxative that causes your small intestine to cramp as well as uterus. I’d weigh out the pros and cons. Since diarrhea, nausea, and electrolyte deficiency are the main symptoms people get from it- I wouldn’t wanna go into labor like that if it was a possibility 🥴.

So at 3:00 pm I walked for an hour around neighborhood then walked up and down our stair case 24 times side ways around 8:55 I did the midwives brew but only used 1 table spoon of caster oil. Down that in 5 mins around 10 pm started having bad back cramps and stomach cramps all night until I couldn’t take it no more which was around 3:30 ish at that point seems like contractions was around 4 mins apart went to hospital and got checked was at 5cm hour later 6cm then labored in pool for exactly 20 mins until I couldn’t take it . Stepped out most killing contractions then another right after then soon as I sat on bed felt the need to push and once another contractions came it was a wrap almost delivered my baby girl still in sac but it busted from the amount of pressure from me pushing but she was out one push . No meds at all born 6:47 am . Pretty fast labor . Sorry long story but that worked for me and I had her few hours later

I’m considering. I know a couple of people who have and it was successful and a few who tried and wasn’t successful. It’s just an oil from a bean so not too many super dangerous risk but you can become dehydrated if you and drink enough before taking it of course bc it is a laxative. Make sure you have plenty of fluids in you so you’re not just popping everything out if it does give you the runs. I may try some tomorrow I’m so ready at this point and I hope baby boy is too.

It can make baby poop in the womb which would require a NICU stay. Is your impatience worth that risk?

Your Dr needs to do some better research! They used to give it to Mums back when my Mum was born. They have since learnt how dangerous it is. It can cause baby to poo in the womb, which causes all sorts of issues.

I just took 3 doses over the last 2 days at 40&3. Had some strong bowel cramps and movements and contractions kicked in strong for the last few days. I took the oil in the morning so I could sleep at night if labor didn’t start. Still waiting for for labor to start 🤷🏼‍♀️
If baby does go boomboom in your tum it can pose a small risk but the babys meconium is sterile just like your waters. Just trying to alleviate fear

I did it with my last two and it went pretty well. The first time I tried it I had two to three bowel movements and then was fine. Labor started within twelve hours for both. The meconium in the womb is a myth. The only thing that can be associated as dangerous is dehydration but as we all know drink your water and you should be ok but if you feel like you are getting dehydrated then go in. I plan on possibly doing the midwives brew right after I get a membrane sweep.

My ob said absolutely do not use castor oil because it could harmful to you and the baby.
