Lube for 1st time sex?

Hello. Hoping this is a safe space. I'm a virgin. Not a teen anymore. My boyfriend and I have been attempting to have sex but I always get scared when he's about to put it in. (We're using condoms btw) I'm afraid of the pain and the possible bleeding that may follow. My friends told me to use lube. What should I do? Any recommendations?

I know my boyfriend has been so sweet and has not been pressuring me but I get frustrated. We've been together for years. Why can't I get myself to let him put it in?
