Sore nipples?

My nipples have been super sore and sensitive all day. I’ve never experienced this before. I’m on consistent birth control (nuvaring) so I don’t have a period. I occasionally get breakthrough bleeding and I had it last week super light and a light brown color. What could cause sore nipples? My boobs don’t hurt at all but feel a tiny bit heavier but I could be overthinking it.
