Husband wants nothing to do with my mother

My husband hates my mother and I have no idea what to do because I love my mother.

My mom made some comments about my husband when we started dating. She had said he looked like Freddy Kruger bc of his acne scarring, and she also said that I could do better bc he didn’t make a lot of money and she said he wasn’t that smart.

The only reason why she said this was because me and him got into a fight. If me and him weren’t fighting she would not have said those things. But anyway, long story short, me and him got into a screaming match the next day, and I ended up telling him what she said, I said even my mom thinks your a POS and said what she said. I absolutely should not have said that but I couldn’t help it and I did. This was 7 years ago and I think it resonates with my husband now.

Since then my mom has made little comments that bother him. He will pick up our kids from her house and she’ll say to the kids “wow, look daddy stopped working to see his kids!” (My husband works a ton)

She’ll make comments to him about how he should ask my brother for tips on how to keep our grass looking nice, since my husband “obviously can’t do it”

Little things like that, but I guess it’s frequent.

So anyway, I know my mom isn’t always nice, but she’s my mom, and we have to accept her. This is who she is and who she will always be.

My mom just dropped off some stuff at my house (I’m hosting Easter) and my husband was power washing the house, and my mom was like wow I’m shocked your actually cleaning the front of the house. My husband got upset and said he doesn’t want to be around my mom anymore. I told him he really needs to get over it and not take it personal. My mom says shit to me like that all the time, and yes, it’s annoying but she’s my mom. He told me to talk to her, but what am I supposed to say? Stop being a bitch? I would love to say that but that’s just who she is.
