Unsolicited advice

So being the “new” (not really “new”, it’s been 6 months) person at work, I got asked a bunch of questions. One popular question was “do you have kids?” (I work in a school) and my response was “not yet”. I got asked this A LOT. Today, a woman who I’m cordial with asked me about kids. I am aware that she has a toddler. Against my better judgment, I told her “we’re trying” and I immediately regretted it. The first thing she said was, “oh no. You don’t want them. Don’t have them”. And then she said “and the men change once you have kids. I was married. I was with my husband for 7 years and the minute I had a baby, he switched up”. She mentioned how it was so bad that she had to take her baby and move to another state, which is what brought her here. She said she was married young and now she’s in her early 20s, divorced, and a single mother. The whole time I’m just listening and nodding my head, she did all the talking. Like ummm ok? We’re still going to try but thanks? Why do people think that everyone’s situations will end up the same as theirs? She ended it with an “I’ll pray for you” 🙄
